For 1st category waters (mainly populated by trout), the authorised fishing period is set at deuxième samedi du mois de mars, soit le samedi 14 mars 2026. The closure of the trout fishery will take place on 3ème dimanche de septembre, soit le dimanche 20 septembre 2026.
However, the opening date for trout in mountain lakes can vary from April, May or even June, depending on the department. The same applies to some French rivers. It is therefore advisable to contact an approved fishing association in your département to find out the exact dates applicable in your area.
