Snook: The black line in the blue paradise.

Hello to all our readers! We are going to tell you about a fish that is much sought after in the world for its power, curiosity and beauty. The “Centropomus indecimalis”, commonly called: “SNOOK”.

It is found on the American Atlantic coast from North Carolina to southern Brazil, passing through the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. The Rodmaps team met him twice, first in Mexico in 2013 and in Belize in 2016.

Snook morphology

The snook has a slender body and powerful musculature. Its mouth is very wide and fragile, it is very reminiscent of that of a black bass.

Its lateral line is marked with a black line all along its body.

How to fish for snook?

Several solutions are available to you. However, the most fun will be to fish on the edges of mangroves, because it is a wary fish, which likes to hunt its prey in the feet of mangroves. You will certainly be lucky (or unlucky) to spot some porpoising a few feet away from you.

You will have to remain discreet, because if he saw you first, then he will be impossible to capture. Surface lures such as stickbaits and poppers are powerful allies in this case. But jerkbaits, worms and shads have proven to be very effective as well.

The second solution to catch a nice snook will be to fish in the open sea, slightly off the coast, in open water with jerkbait or crankbait. However, a good knowledge of the place is essential in this specific case. Using a fishing guide will significantly increase your chances of being caught.

Equipment suitable for snooker

It is very important to have reliable equipment in this type of fishing where there are many obstacles but also because the fish are incredibly powerful.

For fishing rods we recommend multi-strand rods:

The Wanderlust Spinning from Jabbers (for all-rounders)

– Wanderlust Casting de Jabbers (Pour l’utilisation des poppers, stickbaits, jerkbaits)

– Shore Reaper Spinning de Jabbers ( pour les pêches en plage où il faut lancer loin)

Golden Mean Deep Core Monster MHS-610-4 strands (for versatile fishing)
