Salmon fishing in Brittany and Lower Normandy

Let yourself be tempted by salmon fishing in Brittany and Lower Normandy and discover the many stories your guide will tell you about his native rivers in Brittany and Normandy and the epics of the king fish. 

I guide on all the salmon rivers in these 2 regions from the opening of fishing in early March to the beginning of summer. We mainly fish for spring salmon, i.e. the biggest salmon (on average 4/5 kilos). I've been salmon fishing since I was 8 years old, and it's fair to say that the rivers of Brittany hold no secrets for me!

I come from a 4-generation line of sport fishermen and we are the first family in France to have 3 professional fishing guides. I chose Ireland to guide anglers to two of my favourite fish: the sea bass, prince of the Celtic seas, and the king of rivers, the Atlantic salmon.

The detailed programme

Salmon fishing can be done with casting or fly fishing. I specialise in casting (spoons, quimperloises, undulating, hard and soft lures) and can guide anglers of all levels. I also guide fly fishermen, with one or two hands, and Switch rod. I can also teach you how to fly fish.

The main guided rivers for salmon fishing are the Léguer, éllé, élorn, Scorff and Sélune. But there are other rivers of varying size with good runs: the Trieux and the Couesnon.

As far as salmon populations in Brittany and Lower Normandy are concerned, stocks in these different rivers have not changed much over the last 10 years, or even, as in the case of the Léguer and éllé rivers, have increased slightly for spring and summer salmon. The same applies to the Scorff and Couesnon rivers, but only for summer salmon.

The best river for salmon fishing in France from March to April is the Léguer, which flows into Lannion.

This magnificent river for spring salmon fishing is the one on which, during these 2 months, you are most likely to experience a fight with this superb silver fish that is sure to live long in the memory!

I'd strongly advise you to come and have a look around, you'll be delighted by the scenery, the silence and the beautiful pools, haunted by the last great density of Breton salmon!
