A veritable inland sea with an average width of 500m, Lake Mequinenza, located on the River Ebro, stretches over 120km with more than 7,700 hectares of water. The "Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro" (CHE) worked for over 9 years to create the Mequinenza dam (named after the small village engouti) on the Ebro river (rio Ebro) in 1966. The dam was intended to supply electricity to towns downstream.

The carnivores that share this extraordinary water are catfish, black bass, perch and pike-perch ! Present for over 30 years, the pike-perch have literally colonised the lake and recently the perch too, with a very large average size, often over 40cm. Fishing in Mequinenza has no limits, either in terms of record catches or numbers of fish.

To give you an idea of what to expect, it's not uncommon to catch around twenty pike perch and perch per person in a single day! I'm not talking about record scores, you won't believe it.
